I woke up this morning to find that Charles, my Darwin clown, is no longer with us. I put a Bubble Magus box fish trap in my tank yesterday and left it in overnight in the hopes of feeding thru it daily so the fish can get used to it and eventually trap the 6line and YT Damsel for return to the LFS. I put it in the corner of the tank but apparently not tight enough to the glass. Looks like Charles somehow got sandwiched between the glass and the trap overnight and was dead by morning. Sad day, he was my first fish and most friendly...always greet my when I go up to the tank, swim in my hand when doing tank maintenance, etc.

I have since moved the trap to an area where the sides are not up against the glass. However, my skimmer seems to have been foaming like crazy over night? I didn't wash the trap at all before putting it in...instructions didn't say to. Should I have done this?

Thanks,

When your clown passed on, all of his waste was released just like in humans, which is why your skimmer is working so hard.

Be on the lookout for an ammonia spike as well.

I think you should have washed the trap. It probably had a release agent on the plastic.

:sad2: Sorry to hear about your lose.
My Kole Tang jumped out of my tank about a week ago onto the euro brace and cooked under the lights while I was at work. He too was the most friendly of my fish and would eat from my hand.

RIP Charles. We've all been through it at some point. I'm currently at war with a Xanthid crab who has taken out a Firefish.

It's very upsetting when something you did to improve the tank turns out to harm your critters. So sorry to hear.

Sorry about your buddy. Clownfish that are personable and show affection to their caretakers are a bonus to your tank.

Thanks for all the kind words. After a very long period of mourning, I just got home from the LFS with Mocha and Davinci clowns that I hope will pair ;)
