Just tested my mag 3 times with Red Sea, each time I'm hitting 1800 mag. I have a calc reactor with extra course media but no mag media. Using Red Sea blue bucket salt and triple checked salinity. Alk is at 7.8 and calc is at 390. Tank is a 300g. No mag dose of any kind, how can it be that high?

Test a freshly mixed bucket of saltwater and see what you get.

Where did you stop the test? When it stayed blue?

I had Oceanic salt mix, over time, run it high.

that kit only goes to 1600. to get to 1800 you'd need to put in .9 ml . if you put the whole syringe in you'd be at 2000. Are you using that much of the reagent ?? look at a you-tube video to make sure you're doing the test correctly.....

Make sure the vial is completely clean. I started getting weird measurements with that kit and noticed a haze on the vial. A long vinegar soak and multiple rinses with RO/DI and I got normal results

Or possibly you didnt mix the salt bucket up?

I never had any luck or accurate reading with the Red Sea Mag. test, it was always off scale. Gave up and bought a Salifert and readings were within what one would expect.
