Hi I'm wondering if anybody can help me...

My friend has this in his marine tank but nobody know what it is...

Sponge ?

It's like a tounge he said, he was thinking it may be some form of coral.

Can you describe to me what type of sponge it is ?

Post a few more pictures if possible, but fairly certain its a sponge, I am not educated AT ALL on the scientific names of sponges, so Ill leave that to someone else. I will say these are usually sold as "orange tree sponge" in the LFS's.
They are also very difficult to keep in an aquarium long term, they need lots of flow and constant feeding, best left for NPS aquariums.
Id hate to say it but the one pictured doesn't look to be doing too great.
