I'm planning a new tank. Decided to get back in the hobby. I've decided on the Reefer 250 due to size constraints. It with be almost all sps. I am new to LED and have been bouncing all around with what to use. I need the experts to give me suggestions. Thank you for any guidance you can provide

+1 on the T5/LED hybrid.

Think it is the best of both worlds. Don't have the crazy power consumption of a MH fixture, but you get the penetrating PAR and efficiency of LEDs with the color supplementation of T5s.

My experience with my last LED fixture was that while the color and control was nice, my SPS all developed shadowing. This was on a small scale since I didn't have a SPS dominant tank by any means, but the coral I did/do have were dead on one side.

I'll probably be starting a Reefer 250 soon. I'll be putting an AP700 on it.

Wait for the ATI 6x39W/LED Hybrid Powermodule

My local marine only fish store says stick with T5, because then you know exactly what to expect. He changed from t5 to Max spec led in his shop. All corals are doing well but did much better under the t5. He is trying to keep every thing at the same depth, and lps next to sps ect...

I'm planning on using an AP700 when I build my reefer 250.

I don't have a Reefer 250, HOWEVER, my tank's dimensions are incredibly similar to yours.

I ran two Hydrs 26 HD's and eventually added a third. While I did get good growth and color, my tank was moved and thrown off. I loved loved these Hydra 26 HD's. They're amazing. But the sweet spot I had was gone.

Gave up and went good ol T5, ATI 6x39. My corals have bloomed and I've seen double the growth and polyp extension!

Another vote for ATI, but if you're really keen on doing LED only, I would think 2x XR15 G4's would do the trick. One XR30 would not give enough spread, and two will be total overkill. Start with two 15's and add a third if neccessary. Or build a custom floating canopy to add two 39w T5 tubes. That's the nice thing about the modular LEDs like the hydras, kessils, and radions. You give yourself options to change without selling the farm.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I hadn't considered Kessil AP700. I wonder about coverage on a 36 inch tank.

I'm running 1 on my 40b which is 36" and the coverage is plenty.
