I added a sump 2 weeks ago to my 36 bow front. During the water top off. The temperature dropped 5 - 6 degrees. It killed my sps, palays, Kenya trees.
How long would it take to recover? Some of the lps hasn't opened. Going to do a water change tomorrow. Any suggestions would be great!

I'm a little surprised the temperature drop killed that much, could there have been anything else in the water that caused the death? Perhaps a large alkalinity change? Listing your water parameters would help.

My question is why was there any drop in temp at all?

I'm with thegrun. I really don't think it was a small temperature change like that that caused the problems. There pretty much has to be other things in play here.

Did you use RO/DI water with the correct salinity? Make any other changes? Current parameters really would help.

Parameters all 0. Ph 8.0 salinity 1.026 . Use rodi. Had to make a quick batch of top off water. Didn't mix it long. Didn't think temp would drop that quickly. Can't test cal, alk. Test kit on the way. Fish are fine.
