What is optimal for getting the best performance and longevity from my membrane?

can't tell you what the optimal frequency or duration is, but i flush mine every time i use the filter. flush before use, flush after use. just a minute or two each time.

i once forgot to close the flush valve and opened the DI valve while still flushing, and it was happily producing RODI.
didn't notice it until i realized it was taking almost forever to make 5 gallons of RODI water :) it got a REALLY good flush that day

The more often the better, but at some point you have to balance the lost production time, and cost of water into the equation.

The most important time is at the end of a production period.

If you do it at the beginning, I think a lot of people confuse what a DI bypass does and a flush valve.

I only do it at the beginning, I have two flushes though. one that flushes the waste side of the membrane and one that flushes the product side before it gets to the DI. I do this every time I want to make water.

So people don't get confused:

Waste water side is called a Flush Valve.
Product water side is called a DI Bypass.

Both options are available on our systems.
