I currently have a 40b mixed reef with 0 nitrates and a 75 fish with soft corals with nitrates around 80. My plan is to move the 40 to a 90 taking down the 40 and the 75. I want to use a lot of the rock from the 75 because the rocks have a good amount of Yuma recordias on them. The 75 had a puffer and a trigger which I sold yesterday. The deep sand bed is what I believe was causing the nitrate issue. My question is will the live rock hold nitrates too? I have some nice LPS corals that will be added to the 90 and I don't want a nitrate issue. Also I don't want the new tank to cycle.
