Did you buy it? Would be another thing to add to your signature equipment list

No, it's a startup. Not for sale yet. Who knows if they can get the kinks worked out!

How do they avoid picking up pebbles and scratching the glass?

I'd be afraid it would drag a snail and scratch.

Same question I had

rtfm. from their faqs:

http://www.moaidevices.com/faq

Q : Does it cause sand storm / sand stuck / grab sand / scratch glass?

No worries. MOAI Q has a 360° navigation system. You can set cleaning area above sand bed with mobile app.

I'd be afraid it would drag a snail and scratch.

Q : Snails / Starfish ?

We developed an obstacle detection and avoidance system ,MOAI underwater unit can detect and avoid obstacles such as snails and starfish.

i think the thing looks pretty darn cool. if for nothing else than the underwater camera capability.

Don't think it can avoid shells or pebbles or other fine grains of sand. Say you have strombus snails, who lay eggs usually on glass, well, there you go.

Ever see the robot vacuums for home? Now go look at youtube or other videos with pet owners...same concept. Some things you can map, somethings not. Nice idea, would be fun, but not ideal or efficient. Money to burn or geek - sure.
