Definitely not photosynthetic...poor thing had his rock turned upside down for 3 months. Kind of a finely ridged edge like those tiny ridged shells you find on an Atlantic beach, now about quarter-sized, quite healthy and growing. No sense trying to get a pic with my not-so-good camera: he's the same color as the rock and you can really only see him distinctly when he's actively opening up: preferred 30 degree angle, and firmly attached to the rock.

Just one of those neat little finds you get. I don't know how old he is, but he's now actively growing.

I don't think many, if any, bi-valves are photosynthetic. Some are pretty hearty and some are rather fragile in terms of water parameters. I'm always bringing home a new critter almost every time we go snorkeling in the Keys. I was shocked that 1 of my 2 flame scallops survived the 2+ weeks in a holding tank until I got the new 125g set up. The surviver in in the 125 now and seems to be doing just fine.
