I was hoping to get some opinions on a good return pump for an Eshopps R100 3rd gen sump. Unfortunately it has very limited real estate at a mere 4"x11.5".
I have about 5 feet of head in a 95g system inclusive of the sump.
Would like a DC pump although not completely necessary.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks gang!

I have an R100 and use an Eheim 3000 + pump. It fits with no problem as long as you don't use the feet that come with the pump. I use a silicone pot holder to damp any vibratation.

Not a bad pump at all. Definitely something to consider. Hate our sump has no room for the return pump.
Would like to entertain a DC pump if there is one out there.
Definitely will consider your recommendation

how much flow are you looking for?
Since you're looking for DC, the new Jebao/Jecod DCP series might be up your ally. DCP-6500 or DCP-8000 maybe, depending on the flow you want.

I guess I'm not even sure how much flow I have a pump I was gifted now and I forget what the flow is, although it works perfectly fine. I just want to have a better pump or backup pump is all.
So perhaps you can help me answer that question. How much flow do I need for ~5' head on a 95g (75g DT system)?

heh, depends how crazy you are. What pump do you have now? We can surely look up it's flow rate.
Usually people say...4-5x or 8-10x...there's people in both camps. I came from the world of cichlids where everyone was doing 8-10x so i've stuck with that. You can always dial it back.
10x would be like ~1000gph after head. 5x would be half that (~500gph)
Most DC pumps are gonna be higher up the power spectrum. DCP-6500 is adjustable between 850 - 1700GPH. That's before head. After head of course you'd loose probably 20-30% or so. I think that pump would do you OK. It's also only $80. Might be a no brainer to get this one:

If you were just aiming at the 4-5x, then there's a few pumps in the 1000gph range that would do maybe 500-700 after head. Like an eheim 1262, fluval sp2, etc.....not DC pumps, but these are very reliable AC pumps, i wouldn't sweat either of these.

haha, did you dial it back, or running full blast?
an M1 would certainly work, probably overkill for both your use cases, but what is overkill? Haha. At 2000gph, it's more powerful than a DCP-6500, basically sits in between the 6500 and 8000 in terms of flow rate. Although, it also costs like 3-4x as much....If money is no object...

1.5" overflow, have it up 1/2

This is great info. Going to look up more on the DCP 6000. Have to see what the footprint is to see if it'll fit in my return chamber

If that's NG check the Fluval Sea pumps.

6500.
They upped the number for the latest model. It used to be the DC-6000/DCS-6000/DCT-6000. Latest model, they are calling it DCP-6500. I guess cause it does slightly more flow now. Just FYI.
The model number used to be the flow in Liters-per-hour, so DC-6000 was 6000LPH. Now, the pump does more, so they raised the number to 6500 I guess? haha.
And yeah, Fluval Sea (Fluval SP2 / SP4) is a good choice too, for AC pump. However, they're kind of big. I think the DCP-6500 will be the smaller pump of the two, for sure.

I have my older generation DC-6000 in a smallish 20g cube sump for a 60 cube DT. It works well.
For the 75G + sump, with the newer and slightly more powerful DCP-6500, I think this'll be a solid setup.
