I made an impulse buy at the Los a few days ago. Other than it being a soft coral I can't find anything like it in pictures. Can anyone point me to a name?

Kind of looks like a carnation coral to me. Is it soft?

What should I feed it if it is? It looks much happier in my tank vs the lfs.

You should spend some time reading about NPS corals in the NPS coral forum here

http://reefcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=555

There is a lot of info in there abut NPS coral care and feeding. It' snot the end of the world because you got one. :D In many cases NPS corals are some of the most beautiful corals in the oceans

Carnations are extremely difficult to keep. It basically requires low light (shaded), High flow and food for filter feeders like phytoplankton or marine snow.

It really should go into an established reef tank. How long has the reef tank been up?

Here is a thread with people discussing how they keep them and what they feed.

My reef has been setup about 1.5 years. 20 long with a psk 75 skimmer led lighting and a rw4 for flow. I'm just a little confused by its behavior. When it's was under lower light and flow at the lfs the frag was completely retracted. After a few hours under my led lighting it's had fully opened up. Does that seem like the response of a photosynthetic type of coral? Anyways I guess I'll go pick up some roids and phytoplankton I have a clam and some zoos that wouldn't mind a feeding as well.
