UV light without casing

I have a UV light that the casing for the UV sterilizer broke so now it is just a UV light. Can I still use it?

My thought is to put it inside of a piece of PVC or to put it in my drain line so that the water passes through it while it exits the tank since a powerhead cant be attached to it.

Here is a picture of it. Is this a good idea?

How old is the bulb? They lose their effectiveness after 6-8 months. As long as it is still sealed in the quartz sleeve, I don't see any reason why you couldn't fabricate your own case for it.

I've had it for a while but have maybe used it for a month or so in the whole time Ive had it. I usually only run it when I introduce anything new after QT
