fastest nitrification system -> to nitrate

Hi all,

Which system is the most efficient - or - the quickest to convert from toxic ammonia to least toxic nitrate.

Bio-ball wet/dry towers?


Let's say you have a fish only system and a fish dies when you're gone for the weekend. What bio system would handle the (high) ammonia load the fastest?

yeah, probably bio-balls.. a wet/dry filter... only problem is you'd need to clean them every day or 2 or you'll start getting nitrate/phosphates from the organic matter they trap. You can do that in prepared saltwater so you don't lose all of your beneficial bacteria.
