For those of you that have large systems 200 gallons or more. How do you guys supplement magnesium in your tanks? I've been using the reef advantage by Seachem for a while now but it's starting to get kind of pricey. Is there another method to add mad magnesium that's more cost-effective?

I've always kept my SG @ 1.026/35ppt, and never had to supplement Mg. Most salt mixes will have Mg levels near 1350 -1400ppm at that SG.

I don't have a 200 gallon system, but if I did and needed to supply Mg... I would use Epsom salt.

When dosing magnesium, I always used a combination of Epsom Salts (magnesum sulfate) and BRS magnesium chloride. The ratios are described here: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-02/rhf/#6

I have a 150G system and I use Randy's 2-part dosing regimen to supplement Mg...

+1 Did this when my 210 was set-up and keep some handy for when needed with my current tanks.

Bulk Reef Supply Mg supplement always worked for me. MUCH cheaper than name brand.

I've just had to start dosing mag for the first time. I'm using BRS 2 part mag (sulfate/chloride) right now. I believe it's because I switched to Tropic Marin salt which has lower mag than what I was using previously. I may switch to Tropic Marin Pro, but not excited about the cost increase. However, given the amount of mag I need to dose daily, which is about 150ml, it may be more cost effective to switch salts.

I use BRS Mg chloride and epsom salts. I just add the Mg to my water change saltmix.

I am in the process of adding remag to my calcium reactor to dose it that way.

For the last 6+ years I've used Randy's formula using Mag Flake (snow melt) for magnesium chloride and bulk Epsom salt from San Francisco Salt for magnesium sulfate. It's about 1/4 the price of BRS and I've seen zero side effects on a 180g sps/lps reef.
