I have higher phosphates either because silicates or leaching from the rock I bought. Is 1 lb of GFO enough to bring down phosphates in a reactor from 2 ppms. Are the other solutions like chemiclean/pure or phosban short term solutions or long term?

We don't have much data on how much phosphate a pound of media will adsorb, not publicly, anyway. Is this a 180g tank? If so, I suspect that it'll take more than one pound over the long term, depending on the source of the phosphate, but that's very hard to predict. Rock can adsorb a lot of phosphate, but many people get results fairly quickly. Is this rock in a running system, or is it being cured? Lanthanum chloride is much cheaper than GFO for bulk phosphate removal, but it's a bit of a mess to use since it forms a precipitate that should be removed from the system.

PhosBan and Chemi-Pure Elite are GFO based, in terms of phosphate adsorption. Chemo-Pure Elite also has a good grade of carbon in it.
