About to transition from a 29g to a 90g. The 90g is sitting in my basement right now and has been for a couple years. Used to be a freshwater tank. Anyway. Would it be okay to fill it up with a hose first and make sure it doesn't leak and then dry it out after that or will that leave metals and things in the tank?
Also would it be okay to run a like from my rodi straight into my tank and mix up the water in the tank or should I mix the water first and then add it?

Leak testing is always a good idea. I see no problems doing it. For your first mix it will be ok to mix it in the tank but once you have rock and life in it, it's a no no.

+1, leak testing with freshwater is a good idea and a common practice.

To be clear, only mix the salt mix in the tank if there is nothing else in it, so no sand either etc. Then leave a power head in it for a day or two.

Why nothing else? If it is fresh start (nothing alive in the tank). What would be the problem?

The salt mix ends up in the sand and it takes longer to dissolve. You could stir the sand around too which would help but then the dust could take a week or more to settle.

Just realize sand and rock displace water. So don't fill it to the top.
