Trying to figure out what chamber this goes in. Does which way the water is flowing effect which chamber I put it in? I want to keep the stock media basket for now.

I took out the media basket and inserted a tunze 9002 skimmer. I cut the magnet off the side to make it fit. Works great. I have my auto top off that goes into the far left chamber, my heater in the chamber next to it, and 1 empty chamber that I can run a reactor on for carbon or phosban if needed. Hope this helps.

So how are you running media filters?

He is not. Most guys that run a skimmer in the central chamber use a skimmer instead of mechanical filter.

What skimmer are you wanting to use? A few of the HOB skimmers will work with the factory media basket installed, but I think the JBJ skimmer is the only one that will fit in the back compartment on the tank with the media basket installed.

I have a nano cube 28 and I upgraded to the in tank media basket. I do a 5 gallon per week water change, and I do not use a skimmer on mine. I have LPS and zoanthids in my tank.

I am confused. I was told I still need mechanical filtration with a skimmer. I can't run just a skimmer alone for filtration. What about a Bubble Magus QQ1? It says it's rated for 25 gal. It's only $99. Can I get by with that plus mechanical filtration? The other HOB skimmers run about $200 or more. It's a little steep right now considering I am about to drop dime for live rock and sand.

Your live rock is your filtration along with your skimmer. You do not need to run a mechanical filter. I only run a protein skimmer on my 28, and do weekly or bi-weekly 5g water changes.

I don't know if this is outdated or not, but most in this hobby believe the mechanical filters become nitrate factories.

So I can that media basket out completely? No need for carbon or ceramic?

Take the media basket out completely. If you plan on keeping soft corals with LPS or SPS, than you should put some carbon in a filter sock, throw it in one of the other chambers, and change it once a month. You do not have to run carbon if you are not keeping the different types of corals.

Ok. So I want to run soft and eventually lps. So a filter sock of carbon. No need for the sponge or ceramic though.

Yup. That should get you going in the right direction. I have a filter sock with carbon in my 2nd chamber on the left. Auto top off (which you really should have, since you are keeping coral) feeds in to my 1st chamber on the left. My 1st chamber on the right, has my heater. My last chamber on the right is empty, normally have my temperature probe hanging in there. Hope this helps

Hey Kevin, any way you could snap a pic and tell me what equipment your using so I get the right stuff? I'm trying to get an idea of which chambers your talking about.

The Tunze 9002 fits like a glove in the middle compartment of the JBJ 28G (once the magnet is cut off). I included pictures in your other thread.

Yeah I'm returning the eshoppes. I'm gonna wait til after the expense of live rock and a few fish/corals. I will remove excess the media basket and get a protein skimmer and carbon reactor

Sorry, just saw this now. I will try to snap a couple pictures tonight. The tunze 9002 was discontinued I believe. You might be able to find one of ebay or something like that though.

Cool thank you. I read the 9002 was replaced by the 9001
