Not sure what this is....

Algae for 3 weeks, growing on rocks exposed to light, some on sandbed
Looks like this

Should I just wait it out and just perform regular sand stirring, filter sock changes, 10% weekly water changes and 2-3x rock scrubbing?

Or should I act?
>I do have a dual canister BRS media reactor with ROX GAC and GFO that I have not used yet.
>I do have Dr. Tim's Waste away that I have not used yet.

thx!

Looks like hair algae, bring nitrates down and magnesium, alk, and calcium up.

Have you seen your Foxface nipping at it?

Yes, I do see my Foxface take an occasional nip. Which was ok with me if this was hair algae, but if these were Dino's I would be concerned about the toxicity.

I was planning on adding my BRS dual reactor and run GAC and GFO.
At my next water change this week.

I also just bought BRS 2 part package so I can bring up the Ca,Alk and Mg.

Thx for the inputs all!

It always seems easier to me to diagnosis other people's tanks vs my own!:hmm5:

Calcium and alk are on the low side and should be brought up. Nitrates could be lower, with that high of nitrates i doubt po4 is really 0. Its typically balanced with no3 levels, and is likely above .03. I have no3 at 0 and still have light hair algae growth. If its dyno you will see air bubbles trapped on the ends.

It doesn't look like dinoflagellates to me. I had dinoflagellates on my sand for about a month or two after the initial cycle of my tank and they were very dark brown and constantly produced air bubbles across the surface of the film.
