View Full Version : are alk/cal additives temperature sensitive?

Im thinking of putting my cal/alk reservoirs in the garage which is on the other side of the wall from my tank, and running the lines through the wall. The temp in my garage varys greatly throughout the day/year. Will the temp cause issues with the additives? assume evaporation and freezing are not factors because they will be closed containers to prevent significant evaporation, and the temp shouldnt get below freezing.

If the temperature stays above freezing, I suspect the solution will be okay. The alkalinity solution might start precipitating a bit at some point, but it can be redissolving by heating it up, if that happens. The calcium chloride solution should be fine as long as it doesn't freeze. It will redissolve if warmed and stirred, just like the alkalinity solution.

Thanks for the answer! I wasn't sure if the solution would stay stable, or if the strength of the dose would be affected at all.
