I have a juvenile regal angel that has developed what appears to be a tiny white cotton ball between his mouth and gills. From what I've read this could potentially be a fungal infection and could clear up on its own by maintaining good water quality. Does this sound accurate? Or is medication required? He is currently in my DT so catching and treating will be difficult to say the least. He is still eating like a champ so it doesn't appear to have affected his appetite at all. If maintaining better water quality is a cure, then I probably know the cause. I've been feeding the tank A LOT lately to try and fatten up a leopard wrasse that was starting to thin out so my water quality may have dropped signifigantly recently simply due to uneaten food in the tank.

What are the chances this could be spread to other tank inhabitants?

Tiny white cotton ball growths might be Lymphocystis. This usually goes away on it's own if the nutrients are kept to a minimum and the fish is fed a varied diet, but you might want to do a little research first just to be sure. Here's one just to get you started.

Awesome, thank you. What is the likelihood of this transmitting to the other tank inhabitants if this is viral in nature?
