You might be wondering what I have been doing lately. Part of the time I have been helping KQED television film a piece on stomatopods.

You can check it out at: https://ww2.kqed.org/science/2016/11/15/the-snail-smashing-fish-spearing-eye-popping-mantis-shrimp/

Enjoy!

I never realized how complex these shrimp are and use as humans being able to utilize a function from these shrimp into human diagnosis. Incredible!!

Saw it this morning! Good stuff! Had to share the video with my co-workers, who only pretend to put up with my geeky obsessions.

Coolest video I've seen on mantis shrimp. I sadly didn't even know about the spearing type until now!

Glad to see you stop by the forums, Roy!

I have to ask though, what kind of mantis shrimp is that at 3:00? :uhoh2:

Mantis shrimp are beasts! I looked them up on YouTube...so many videos of them attacking other Mantis shrimp, fish, crabs! I guess you need some pretty thick glass to keep these guys!

It's safer to have thick glass, but not all mantis shrimp really pose a threat to breaking an aquarium. Pretty much just large male O. Scyllarus and large male G. Chiragras.
