so I always wondered if I got one with my TBS order a while back...a few missing fish here than there but most where within a few days of adding them so I was not sure it was a predator...the other day I saw it!!

then while rescaping saw it again then yesterday 2 fish went missing no bodies to be found. :(

all that said I need to get this mantis out what's the best most effective, and easiest way to remove this sucker?

fish trap?

I would like to have one in the sump. You're just a bit too far.

Here is my attempt at a DIY mantis catcher.
Did not catch anything and the strip was still in there in the am.

I had to pock holes in the bottom so the air could escape and the trap to sink to the bottom.
I'll try again. It's probably so full from eating 2 med size fish in one night. :(

You should set up another tank and keep it.

That's weird, I had 3 mantis in my display that came in with my TBS rock. I was able to remove one by finding the rock he lived in, but the other 2 are still roaming around in the 280. I haven't had any issues with the mantis killing fish and haven't noticed any decrease in the cuc population, although I am pretty sure a few snails probably were killed. I do feed the tank heavily, though. Maybe that is why. They are wennarae mantis that come in on the TBS rock and usually max out at around 3-1/2 inches. They are interesting to watch!

Did you catch it?

I am with Finland. Yours must be hell bent. I have a mantis and large pistol shrimp. In 3.5 months I have not lost a snail, conch, cleaner shrimp or peppermint shrimp.

Are you sure this is what is killing your fish? Have you seen him? How big is he? I would put money on a crab vs the mantis.

I tried a spring trap a few nights. I did catch and release the pistol shrimp.lol..the mantis in my tank stays in a hole with a little shell he put over the front.

I second it could be a crab as well. My TBS tank that I had several years ago had a couple of small mantis but a ton of gorilla crabs and one enormous mithrax of some kind. I put an ID thread on here way back then if you want to see him.
