I was thinking about building a dwarf zebra lion fish tank, but not sure what to put in the tank with them. I have a 40 breeder tank and I'm thinking 2 lion fish would be plenty. My husband wants to add a couple baby horseshoe crabs, some live rock, and a couple different types of coral. Would all that be okay in the tank with the lion fish? I'm all for suggestions!! Thanks!

Those are nice to have in a predatory tank although they are the devil themselves in the ecosystem. With their diet it is likely they will produce more waste than the usual fish we keep in our reefs. If you add corals maybe start with softies and zoas that can tolerate or in many cases thrive in "less than ideal" conditions. Frog fish might go nice with these fish but in a 40 you may need to limit your live stock. 75 gallon is only 12 more inches and will give you a lot more to work with.

Don't get horseshoe crabs, they inevitably starve to death in captivity unfortunately. If you do end up with a pair of dwarf zebras try to get them around the same size so the larger one doesn't harass the smaller one and then the key is to make sure they are both getting equal amounts of food and have they're own caves to retreat to as they tend to be a little more secretive than the volitans. Being that it is a smaller tank it should be relatively easy to feed them both as it shouldn't be hard to find them. They're great fish, if you do get the pair enjoy them, I had one years ago and its still one of my favorite fish ever to this day.

I've read somewhere that some tangs will work in a "fish only" tank to help with cleaning. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

IMO, the only thing you are able to is put some small fish in there due to the size of the tank which will make them potential snack for the lionfish.

Raise the lion fish, and then deep fry them. They are good to eat believe it or not

Not a lot of meat on a dwarf.

I am planning to keep dwarf zebra lion fish in my 55g with other classic reef fish and it should be fine. I have horseshoe crabs and the require extensive feeding. Not recommended for the novice unless you know how to feed them.
