How much do you allow the temperature of your tank to vary within a 24 hour period??? How tightly do you control the temperature band??

I've got a digital thermometer in the coolest section of the tank, farthest from the heaters in the sump. I keep that between 78 & 79. Usually the othe side of the display tank is a half a degree higher. Daily/nightly the temp fluctuates less than one degree.

The more drift(w/in reason--2-4 degrees), the more hardy corals become(especially acros).
It allows a more diverse enzyme expression to handle waste/energy metabolism.
Greenbean did a very informative write-up about this years ago.

During the winter, it stays around 78. During the summer it can get quite warm, up to 84-ish until the cooling fans kick on. Never had any issues because it's a gradual increase and not rapid swing.

Heaters set the lowest limit at 78.5 F. During ambient of 75 or less, heaters cut out at 79. If ambient is above 75, then tank upper range will climb. I no longer use a chiller, so tank can get to 84.

My tanks run at whatever temp the house is. No heaters, no chillers. House temps gets as low as 72 in the winter, as high as 82 in the summer.

My new tank is running an Apex for the first time and for the first few weeks I kept the tank within 0.5 degrees. I then realized that the heater was running too much for my liking and figured it's probably not a good idea to have animals that are used to that much stability. So I changed my programming to allow for a full 2 degree fluctuation throughout the day. I have heater 1 set to go on at 77.5 and turn off at 79.5. And I have heater 2 set to go on at 77.4 (only if heater 1 is struggling) and off at 79.5.
