72 long 30 wide 24 tall is what i want. Thinking 3/4 sides 1/2 bottom n top.

Material....I cant remember what Acrylics AKA James recommends in cell cast.

But will any other American made cell cast be ok.?

I'd personally go 1 '' (bracing will be a factor) but I'm sure many will say 3/4'' will be sufficient.

For a tank only 24" high, 3/4 is MORE than enough

The purpose of my questions are a local friend ordered a 72X30X24 bare tank for 1600$. So I contacted the mfg myself and asked can he tell me what brands of acrylic he use's and how are the tank edges finished.
He didn't say machine polished. Just not flame polish. About the material used he said "American or Canadian made" just whatever his supplier has. He also couldn't state what brands he prefers. ??? So clearly I shouldn't give him my money.

And thanks for the help.

DIY seems better for me. And perfect clear seems are not a huge deal. Because the tanks will also have a wood frame all around it. And look like I made a plywood tank with cutouts. Except the plywood will be solid mahogany.

Albano, when I was thinking about the height, I thought the same thing, with the 30'' width, I was wondering how much deflection there would be. I've just seen too many under built acrylic aquariums, the last, an 8' tank 24'' wide x 30'' height made from 1/2 acrylic, basically bowed out. The last I had built was 28'' tall and 42'' long and I upgraded to 3/4 with no visible deflection. And I'm glad you pointed out, MORE, rather than sufficient. Grampa, enjoy!

This is kinda the idea. [not my photo]
And I already have a nice birch ply with mahogany trimming and solid mahogany top stand holding my 165g. [well glue up/solid]

Thanks for the help.
