I was fishing out a goby that swam into my sump tonight and noticed a whole bunch of these little guys. Any idea what they are? My tank hasn't been doing too great lately in the sump...Seems to accumulate stuff and smells really bad when I drain it during water changes.

They are only in the sump as far as I can tell. Biocube 32

If they are attached to the sump, I'd guess they are sponges, possibly Scypha. If they are crawling around, they might be baby snails or something similar.

If the sump is accumulating debris, adding some flow might help.

Thanks a lot, seems they are the sponges.

Okay, that makes sense. They are harmless at worst. :) They might help a bit with water clarity.

looks like they could also be tubeworms.

That picture shows both pineapple sponges and spirorbid worms (white spirals) both totally harmless and totally normal..

pineapple sponge population seem to come and go.. Its very common on new tanks and they tend to go away as the tank matures.. But you will still see some

Yes, on second look, I see some spirorbids, too.
