Silly Question, just upgraded to Red Sea

So I went from a 35 gallon regular marine tank with filter to a red sea e-170 with sump. Have it all cycled, moved in my fish from my old tank... they seem to enjoy it. Only problem is when I feed them, the food goes right into the sump overflow..... Am I supposed to turn off the filters while feeding? Any help is greatly appreciated :)

I had a RSM C-130 and I always shut my main pumps off when feeding. I did leave one power head on in the DT, just so there was still some flow.

Most of us turn off the return pump when feeding.

I shut off the skimmer, return pump and all the wavemakers and gyres. I feed, and spot feed some, then in 10 minutes when things start to come back on, I let them run for 15 seconds or so to stir things up and then give them another 10 minute off time. Most of the sand dwellers seem to appreciate letting food settle for a while so they can get their share. The corals and anemones don't mind it either.

I leave my pumps on but i use one of these and its cured the issue.
