Hi Reefcentral,
I need some small help choosing one of these two skimmers. This is for a my first reef tank/build which is a 37 gallon DT with 10 gallon sump. The choices come down to either the Reef Octopus 110sss (space saver verison) or Bubble Magus curve 5. They both cost roughly the same, and perform about the same. Not sure which one would be better but I am starting to lean toward the curve 5. I have heard on the 110sss for some people it has been hard to dial in. And with the curve 5 that their customer support is bad. Your thoughts would be appericated.

Hi, a good friend of mine has Bubble Magus curve 5. As I understand for your 37 gallon tank it will be enough. The core feature is low noise.

I've never used a Reef Octopus but I am currently using the Bubble Magus curve 5 and it's a great little skimmer. Pulls out tons of junk, is easy to set up and it's fairly insensitive to water level.

I don't know if this helps, but FWIW, I've run a BM Curve 5 and RO 150SSS on my 125G. I'm not sure if comparing those two is fair (maybe Curve 7/9 to the RO 150sss would be?), but I was never happy with the BM (long break in, very finicky). The RO on the other hand has been spectacular right out of the box....Good luck!

Been running a Curve 7 for almost 2 years. Pulls out a respectable amount of gunk at various settings. and fairly easy to clean. No problems to date.

Only ones to really consider are Lifereef ot MTC. I have had Reef Octopus and both the Lifereef and the MTC (currently). They are far better than Reef Octopus. IMHO
