Really interested in seeing your T5/LED DIY Hybrids with controllability.....hopefully under the 400 range lol.....(I know I'm kidding myself...*nervous shameful LOL*)

But have been really interested in supplementing my LEDS with a couple T5s or getting a decent T5 4 bulb ballast and fashioning some LED strips to it somehow.....

Keep in mind I have never done anything like this but feel I could pull it off with the patience of the right person...I do have IT background just no programming or anything.....:(

What sort of controllability are you looking for? Do you already have leds? What kind?

I made a diy 6x80watt t5/led hybrid for my 125 and am really like it so far. I used the 3-up led diodes and a few other colors in there all on their own channel. They are connected to my reef angel controller for ramp up and down. If my controller wasn't in the garage, I would have it turn my T5s on and off too, but rather than run another wire, I just use a simple timer for those. I may do some sort of relay down the road, but it works for now. For the T5s I used the mira retro kits. They are the most versatile and cheapest of the readily available options. I then put one long heatsink down the middle and put my leds in "clusters" on it.

Ill post pictures if I can find them on my phone, or ill take some next time I remember.

Yeah mainly just like ramp/down
Dimmable....i currently have a cheap China box LED (globalstar 300w led...manual dials..etc) i don't mind the use of timers...but have been tempted to buy prebuilt LED fixture and just fasten T5s to it as it seems the easiest.

Grim, I was hoping you'd get a better response to your request. I have new RB Photon V2 fixtures and I'd like to find a clean, slim line t5 retro fit that I could use. I'd like to add a single bulb to the front and back of the led fixture. But it has to be neat and tidy as I'm not using a canopy anymore and the new Photon V2 fixtures are really slim and clean looking.

If you have a canopy retro some t5s next to your current fixture. I am running a 300w mars aqua with 2 t5 retros and am very happy with how it makes the tank look.

Wow these are looking great! I just recently came into am Apex Controller...so this project has been put on the back burner a bit...while I figure out what I am.doing with the Apex having so much fun setting it up I'm an IT guy by trade so love the tech! Loving these ideas though giving me some great starting points.

Hey TNT32D I used 8020 extruded aluminum to create the support. Search on amazon for it.
Basically there are 2 6foot pieces bolted to the back of the stand and then I bolted in the support structure a across the top. It's pretty great stuff and comes in a multitude of sizes. I used the 10 series to make this.
