I'd like to siphon some water out of a sump into a bucket, they're at the same level, how to go about doing this....? I have a water pump but I want a better way of sucking up the detritus....would love some suggestions...

I use a maxijet pump attached to a hose and it works well to get the detritus out of the sump.

Many people use a Bucket Head pump, available @ HD I am told.

Maleeves reef has a segment where he just has a small pump and does what Kenith says. It's super easy

I use this pump. Works well & easy to use. The detritus you suck up though must be small. Tiny hard pieces will get stuck.

Hook your siphon up to it. When you turn the faucet on, it activates the siphon. You can then divert to a bucket or just down the sink. This is how we siphoned tanks when I worked at PetSmart 15ish years ago.
