Has anyone drilled the bottom and installed a completely internal overflow on a 40B? I'm leaning towards wanting to do that even though it'll take up more space in the tank just to keep from having plumbing hanging off the back of the tank/stand....
Anyone done this and have any pics/details? If not, I'd likely go with one of the low profile two piece overflows thru the back.

The main thing is to make sure that the bottom isn't tempered, if it's not tempered then it will work coming through the bottom. Keep in mind that the longer the overflow box the better for surface skimming. That's why a c2c box is the best overflow box to have.

On my 40 breeder I have a internal c2c box, or it's actually not c2c because I stayed 3" from each end to have a place for my return bulkheads. It really doesn't have to be very big. Mine is around 30" long, 2 3/4" wide & 3 3/4" hieght. It really only has to be big enough to fit your 90 inside. The hieght will also be determined by where u drill your holes in the back glass. The lower u drill the holes the taller the box has to be.

I set that tank up before the ghost style, 2 piece overflows where available. When I set my 150 gallon up I made a diy ghost style overflow with a acrylic interior weir that is held to the tank by bulkheads & a exterior box that I made from glass that is siliconed to the tank. I do prefer this setup rather then just a interior c2c because it takes up less real estate inside the tank.

I would recommend a c2c or close to c2c box for surface skimming. If u can view the tank from the sides I like to stay 3 or 4" from the sides of the tank because I think it looks better. It also gives u a spot for your returns. Eighther route u decide to go the tank will have to be about 5" away from the wall behind it.

It's not tempered... Only trying to figure out how to hide the plumbing behind the tank if I go out the back glass...
