I'm going to be building a new tank in the near future (I have had tanks in the past), and something I would really like to do from the beginning, if possible, is to build a tank that doesn't allow phosphate levels to get a foothold.

I know the basics... I'll be placing emphasis on aquascaping and powerhead placement for good flow, I'll run a powerful skimmer and a reactor with GFO, will be careful with feeding from the beginning, and so on.

What I'm really curious about is this: Are there rock and sand choices that I can make that will make life easier? I have read a lot about Marco Rocks, aragocrete, etc. recently but I am not sure that there is any clear consensus there on if it helps. What are you guys thoughts? If it helps, what specific brands do you like the best?

What other things can I do to minimize phosphate?

Thanks!
