I'm looking at the Petco Caribsea Aragonite or Nature's Ocean Aragonite. Anyone have experience with these and know the quality and grain size? The grain sizes aren't listed, but they're 30% off right now...

I have Caribsea aragonite/arag-alive (Bahamas oolite, which is fine grain) in my tank and I bought it from Petco. I like it a lot. Similar situation, I bought it on a 30% off sale and also had a coupon so it was really cheap compared to elsewhere. The Caribsea Special grade reef is a little larger grain and seems to be what a lot of others buy.

If you are referring to this https://www.amazon.com/Fish-Aquatic-Supplies-Aragonite-Reef/dp/B004LOBUKK/ref=sr_1_14?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1486680481&sr=1-14&keywords=reef+sand I have it and it is very good sand. It is fine grain, but just remember to wash it. It is quite dirty.

I bought it 3 weeks ago and it was very clean and stable.

At least IME, sand is something that even Petco can't mess up! My only advice is to buy dry sand - the supposed "live" sand sold at a premium does nothing other than generate a whole lot of extra $$$ for the companies selling it. You will be much better served by getting a cup or 2 of sand from your (trusted) LFS or a local reefer and using it to seed the dry.

I got 130 lbs of the caribsea aragonite for $0.62 per pound. It's the special grade. Score!
