Just wondering if anyone has put together a sump kit from ocean box designs. Preferably the 20 gallon long kit.

I've seen them and they seem a little spendy for a few acrylic baffles and chunks of eggcrate. Acrylic also has potential to swell and crack the glass, so having a glass shop cut glass baffles is generally a better option for a glass sump, IMO.

Hmm never heard about the acrylic swelling part.

Yeah, it absorbs water to a certain extent and can swell and crack glass if there's not enough clearance between the acrylic and glass. It's best to either go all acrylic or all glass.

Don't worry about swelling they are cut with a small gap on each side they are also beveled to allow a nice silicone bead. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170217/d7e9557845959e5eafc32be35db3428a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170217/cd8d0f6144fcd00683ab40666e29f9c4.jpg

The only way acrylic will "crack" your tank is if there is zero gap between the glass and acrylic. The kit will serve you well for year to come. I only use acrylic to make my own sumps and I never had an issue. Also used a 10 gal kit just to see how it was, i must say I loved the beveled bottom corners!!

Couldn't agree more. Yes Acrylic will water load over time but the effect is greatly exaggerated. If memory serves correct loading is approximately 1% of total weight. If you leave yourself the normal 1/8 -1/4" gap you will be just fine. Also, having purchased some Oceanbox items in the past, yes they are a bit expensive but they are of very high quality and finish!
