i am culturing ISO in 8 x 3L plastic jars + 1x20L large plastic carboy, all bubbled from a Medo LA-120 (~$600) and tonight is went KaPut. I was able to switch over to building air, which is NOT a long-term solution as the air is nasty and goes down regularly. the Medo puts out a black funk which I dont like (and the fact it only lasted less than 1 year!!). for example, the main airline coming out of the pump before the inline air-filter i built, is black with i suspect some sort of lubricant/oil.
Questions on air pumps:

1) preferred style or design air pump for culturing algae? dont think a diaphragm style will push this much volume water to a rapid boil, but i have maxed on the LA-120
2) brand / model?

Thanks! Darren
