I havent posted in a while and I wanted to hear if anyone else is fighting this problem. so over the past couple months I've been pretty busy and slacking on my reef and this brown slimy almost filmy bubbly algae started growing and i didnt really care since it wasnt killing anything until stuff started looking bad. my anemones all got stringy and lost their bubble tips and lots of different LPS started dying off. after reading a little bit i decided to do a 4 day blackout. i wrapped my tanks in towels and waited it out... when i uncovered the tank it was like night and day. all of the dinos GONE! and they have yet to grow back and it has been a week. In addition to the blackout i added carbon, gfo, and a bacteria supplement to take care of all the die off and i think it pretty much worked. all my corals look way better than they did and the anemones after 2 to 3 days have bubble tips!

I figured i should share my experiences with this because it really did help my tank a lot.

Below are before and after pictures.
