I have my two clowns in QT while my tank stays Fallow. Today after I fed them in QT I noticed they started to lay on their sides for some time and then get up. The small one seems OK but my large maroon female is laying on her side alot now. Her eyes have seemed slightly buldged for a day or two but I didn't think it looked too bad, could a bacterial infection be causing this? How should I treat? Currently I am treating with CP and slowly reducing the salinity to reach hypo levels.

What are your ammonia levels?

My alert badge is saying that they are OK. However during TTM I think I had a pretty bad spike that caused some burn on the fins of the big clownfish (little one didn't go through TTM). Maybe this caused a wound that got infected?

Could be. I don't trust the ammonia badge even though I use them in my QT as well.

I had a few fish die in QT about 5 months ago. The badge showed OK, but I tested after 4 days and it was off the chart.

I would test with a kit just to make sure.

I will test with a kit if symptoms continue. What medication is used to treat infection?

I'm skeptical that its a bacterial infection without more signs/symptoms. have you noticed anything else beyond possible bulging eyes?

You could try dosing paraguard or doing a paraguard bath. i've found it to be easy on fish.

I noticed some paleness of her stripes and she didn't eat as much. I assumed it was stress but could be related.

How is it doing? Have you done any more water changes? I'd do 10-20% per day.

Work called me in early so I haven't gotten to tend to her. I hope she's OK. I'll keep you posted

She is exhibiting very odd behavior, she is still alive but is still tilting over on her side.

Interesting. My alert badges have never let me down.

Could it be related to the low salinity? Messing with swim bladder.

Mine hadn't either...until then. I still use them though. Using one in QT right now. I just make sure to text every few days, if I'm feeding alot, just in case.

How low is your salinity now? Where did it start and how quickly did you lower it?

I think it's still around 1.015 I have been lowering it very slowly.

I don't think that would cause swimming issues. My LFS keeps it right about there.

How is the clown doing today?
