Just started up my 150 a little over a week ago, what is all of this stringy stuff on my rock? It just appeared out of no where.

It's all over the rock.
Thanks!

It might be some type of bacteria. As the tank matures though it should go away on it's own IMO.

Hopefully..I tested everything last night and all looked "good". Haha.

Yep.. looks like bacterial snot...
Did you add any "bacteria in a bottle"?
Get those powerheads kicking man and crank up the skimmer :)

Is it flexible and moving in the current?
It looks like it's a mucus net of some kind with debris from the water column getting caught in it.
Vermitid snails leave similar fuzzy strands on rocks after stirring up detritus.
I'd bet there are things that are trying to catch food out of the water column and you just had enough detritus to make them visible.

In a tank only up for 1 week with all dry rock?

Probably not then, but you didn't provide that info earlier [emoji1]
Yeah, bacterial bloom eating up excess nutrients of some sort or another.
It will probably go away on its own, like a less fun version of the pineapple sponge explosion most new tanks seem to get

I'm not the OP and read the first sentence of their initial post and look at the giant pictures.. :D

Okay, I just found it weird that anything like this is happening. I actually cranked down the power heads a little they were blowing up sand. But I didn't notice they don't blow around the sand as much now, maybe it all settled down.
I also didn't think it was necessary to have my skimmer in just yet, but I'll fire her up!
I put a pinch of fish food in a couple days ago. And I just started dosing ammonia today.

Was it "live sand" btw?

Basically live rock, but sand. Sand that is full of good bacteria, pods, etc.

I used a turkey baster and blew off the rocks the best I could, hopefully the skimmer will pick stuff up. Tons of sand flew off the rock, I think that power head really stirred stuff up at the beginning. I did wait about a day for all the sand to settle before turning any pumps on.
I think I need to get another power head in there focusing on the rock to keep stuff from settling on them.

So for those of you interested,I find this very interesting..
This morning there was stringy stuff still on the rocks..I was gone all day, and now at exactly day 10, I think..No stringy stuff on the rocks at all! Completely clean!
And at the same time some algae is starting to pop up, so I guess let the bad times roll!
Not the best pic, but you get the idea!
