I would give the hammer some room. Rics are a little less hardy than other mushrooms like Discosoma and others, so Ric trouble could be a number of things.

Definitely. My Frogspawns which have much less of a sting keep my discosoma back.

I've just noticed some flesh where the hammers tentacles sway. It's either stung it or its getting over shadowed and it's being damaged by the lack of light.

Highly doubt light.. Its being stung or irritated..
