I'm running a Nuvo fusion 10g on the third floor right now and want something larger but not too big for obvious reasons. What size do you guys have and what's the biggest you would put in an apartment!?

Not sure why being in an apartment limits you to a size...
Construction of said apartment may... or rules of that apartment..

Go 40b.. Its a great tank size IMO...

Apartment has no weight limit or anything of that nature but going up stairs and then I'm moving at the end of the year into house so moving everything and what not. A lot of things playing a role in choice, just trying to see what kind of issues or struggles people might have. I'd hate to bite off more than I can chew.

I agree with Mcgyvr. If the apartment complex allows it, something like a 40B or a 55 should be ok.

My apartment allowed me to run a 70 gal Cadlights but nothing bigger.

I would wait until I move. It is only 8 months away. I wouldn't want to take my setup apart a few months after I got the system stable.

I have a 55 in an apartment. I also agree with waiting. Plus, you can get a larger tank to fit the space you have.

I have about 100 gallons in my 4th floor condo. Insurance helps me sleep.

Yeah I guess this will give me 8 more months to stash as much money as I can for a large build. My fusion is packed right now lol and I just added a gargonian and another acro colony.

If you're worried about weight , why not get a longer cabinet for the tank ? Helps to spread the weight of the tank to a wider area . Thats what I did for my 4ft 120 gallon sitting on a 6ft long cabinet/stand .

I have had my 75 in several apartments now. My current one has cement floors and some guy has a 220 here on like the 12th floor (I'm on 15). Thinking of doing my upgrade while still here but I'd like to move this summer to a place I buy and don't want to move a new setup. I'd wait until the move if you want anything larger than that 40b. I'd also avoid the 55 since the width makes it hard to scape well.

If you're moving in a year, I would wait the year and design your new build according to the layout of the new place

Double check with your lease agreement to make sure they don't prohibit "water furniture" which fish tanks tend to fall under. Most apartments don't allow you to have a water bed either.

40 gallon tanks aren't very hard to move. Just need a buddy and a few buckets.

I had a 90 in a third floor apartment for a couple years. That, I would not recommend.

Thanks guys, there was no stipulation with complex from get go. Only my thinking of how much of a pain it would be to move. I'm going to wait until home purchase goes through.

I'd wait... save money and buy an even bigger tank

A 40 breeder makes a nice little reef tank because of the 18" depth. I have a 40 breeder in my bedroom & I like it way more then my first saltwater tank I ever had which was a 55 gallon. The 55 only had 13" depth so I was limited on my rocksvape, basically had to stack rock against the back glass.

I would determine what u want to upgrade to when u move & if it's a 120 or smaller then a lot of the equipment u get for a 40 breeder u can transfer over & u would only need a tank & some more rock. U wouldn't have to dramatically oversize the equipment for a 40 breeder to work on the upgrade. If u want something closer to 180 or 200 gallons then it may be a better option just to wait so u don't have to buy all new equipment twice in a year.

I'm quite sure this is for the new place, not the apartment.

Yeah meant something around 450g. I am in process of getting quote for a 96x36x36 and 120 x36x36. And yes this won't be for in apartment lol.
