Hi guys

Trying to figure out which powerheads I want to use for my 220 (72 x 24 x 30) FOWLR build.

I am going to have a Wavebox 6208 (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/tunze-comline-wavebox-6208.html) and then I am debating how to supplement.

I am thinking either 2 x MP40QD (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/vortech-mp40w-qd-propeller-pump-ecotech-marine.html)

or

2 x Tunze Turbelle Stream 6155 (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/tunze-turbelle-stream-6155-controllable.html)

What do you guys think? I've never used Tunze powerheads before so I am not sure of the pros/cons to using them vs the MP40s.

With that size tank I would go with the 6155's. The MP40 will not do as good of a job at covering the length of the tank. If you want to use MP, the MP60 would be a better choice.

Get a gyre 280, I got the 150 on a 220 (same dimensions) hits the other side of the tank easily

+1. The Tunze's are great pumps and will outlast anything on the market by a long shot while putting out plenty of flow for that size display!

Friend of mine mentioned the new gyre XF250, he said that you can control two of them with the new controller. Anyone done this? It would be the cheaper option definitely but this hobby ain't cheap so its definitely not based on price.

I don't see spending a ton of $ just for flow for a fish only. I really don't see you needing 2 anyway

I just took some Tunze 6100s down for their 48 month cleaning. Still going strong after 10+ years. I would buy them again in a heartbeat. If you have some time to look, see if you can find some used ones - I just got some 6201s and a controller for $150 shipped off of eBay.

I think that the Tunze will last longer than the Vortech - at least most of them do. You can also point the Tunze and they tend to push more water, IMO. They do take up more space in the tank.

I have two old 6100's and an original brown 6050, all are still going strong. IMO the older series are more robust than the newer ones.

They work for a long time without needing anything, IME. I only clean them when the flow slows down due to the coralline covering the intakes.

I love it! I won't ever get rid of mine, they have earned a place in my tank.

Taking a little of what JDA said was maybe look for a used Tunze 6215 Wave Box and your done. I had one on my 300DD and it was more than enough. If you are wanting try the newer model then hook it up first, pour some Coral Frenzy (real fine powder) on the opposite side of the tank and see how it moves to the other? You may not have to add anything else.

I have 2 tunze 6105s...I wouldn't never switch. Dead silent, no problems, and they move a ton of water.

I just want to say - I have a 75 gallon and running two Jebao PP-8's and they have been the BEST thing I have done to my tank. (other than lights and reg water changes).

But I'm amazed at how important flow is! my two cents..

So a couple of RL buds swear by the new Gyre XF250s so I went ahead and ordered a couple from BRS with the 10% off sale they had yesterday. Will report back when I get the tank up and running! I really appreciate the input guys. :)
