is there a way to configure the one gallon jug pump cap so that I can put a dose hose through it or should I just drill a hole in the regular screw cap?

Hey there!

I'm personally a huge fan of these 1/4" push connect bulkhead adapters (http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/1-4-push-connect-bulkhead-tank-adapter.html)for DIYing my dosing containers. I've used them on dosing jugs and on empty vinegar jugs and they work perfectly! You will have to drill a hole in the cap to fit the bulkhead. :)

I drilled the top of the BRS slim 1g containers and install the push connect there.

The reason why I didn't drill the cap is that the connect will be in the way for refilling the jugs. I learned this the hard (annoying) way. I used to have the push connect on the caps, but it was a pain to refill using a funnel.
I had to take out the push connect line, then unscrew the cap, and then pull out the bottom hard line piece from the jug in order to fit funnel. This would cause me to spill (drip) solutions everywhere from the lines.

I need to refill often; 1g each every 3-4 weeks. I mix the solutions in the mixing bottle, and pour into the dosing containers using a funnel. Now there is no need to disconnect line, unscrew the caps, and pull out the line. I do leave the cap on to cover the containers, but not screwed in, this is to allow air to enter.
