I have my red sea reefer xl 425 up and running. Footprint is 47.5 inches by 23 inches. lps and softies only in the tank. I do have an eggcrate lid. I run a vertex omega 150i. I currently have 5 bimac anthias,1 flame angel, and 2 mandarins. They are transfers from my old tank. What else can I add in there for color and more life to the tank. It looks kind of empty.

This is a like a standard 120 but a little smaller, right? You could do a yellow tang, a bubble tip anemone with a clown, maybe a pair of genicanthus. Chromis and anthias is a good combination.

I agree with everything except the Genicanthus pair. Most genicanthus need a bigger footprint than 48"

I thought about the wrasse but I heard they will find the smallest gap to jump out of. And also it's barebottom

Every tank needs a clownfish pair! A midas blenny is also very active and colorful.

Wrasses jump.
I have/have had many Cirrhilabrus and Paracheilinus wrasses and they like to jump fairly often.
The two listed above don't need sand.
Halichoeres, Macropharyngodon, and Coris wrasses need sand.

I put my clowns in their own tank. I got tired of being attacked. I still have 5 RBTAs. I think I would like a Midas blenny and some wrasses. So fairy and flasher wrasses? How many and what kinds?

You could do 2-3.
Any Cirrhilabrus or Paracheilinus should work.
Zoacollector (http://www.zoacollector.com/wrassereef-safe.html) is a good place to start looking.

Purple tang
Red sea regal angel
Melanarus wrasse

At least that's what I'd add....

Marine Bettas are always a good addition (as long as you don't have small shrimp in the tank you would want to keep)...

Regal Angel (I would go with a juvenile Maldives btw.) could be risky with softcorals and LPS

Just curious, how much of a requirement is it? I've always kept sand beds in my tanks. I do know a guy who had a nice big, healthy-looking mel. wrasse in a bare-bottom tank.

They dig into the sand at night or when frightened. If they don't have any sand to burrow in they will get stressed. Most of the ones that ive seen in BB tanks only live weeks to months. They can also damage their jaw by trying to dig into the glass which would cause them to stop eating.

Wow. Then, yeah, no mel. wrasse for this tank.

How about a male flame wrasse? Gorgeous.

Yep, Cirrhilabrus jordani would be perfect for this tank :)
They sure are mean though.
My choice would be Paracheilinus attenuatus though.:fun2:

I tried a regal and he refused to eat in QT and died. I like angels but I can't seem to get them past QT
