Tanks have different times on cycling, it depends on how much cultured rock you have what sand you use and filtration. There are many things out there that can help you speed up the cycle process . I always use bagged sand that has culture bacteria in it and a few pieces of rock that have coral line algae on them and you can add spira to it , i do not. Then put a couple of fish in it like damsels. When they are alive for at least a month without any being dead you can start adding corals for beginners like polyps or mushrooms and see how it goes. That would be my advise but i am just getting back in the hobby after 15 years and things are a lot different.

Not sure that last post answered the question....
I was running a 12 hour cycle on mine, but started get some algae issues. LFS says 8, but if I go that low, my Zoas start reaching for the stars, and they are at the very top of my tank. Currently I am about 10- the whites for 8 and blues and sunrise/set lamps flushing out the other 2.

I am sorry i misunderstood what you were asking , it all depends on your lights how long you leave them on , the range can be as short as 6.5 hours and go up to 10 to 12. If your growing algae rapidly back your lights down 30 min each day till you have the right time for your setup.
