Ok so me and my Mam where going to get a 80 gallon tank but we decided to go with a 137 gallon instead so I want a volitan lionfish but we currently have GSP in a smaller tank that will be upgraded to the new tank will the lion eat the GSP?

How wide is the 137? The green spotted puffers are known to be nippy and the spines won't protect the lion. You need to decide if you want a puffer or lion.

I don't know the dimensions I am getting the tank of ebay all I know is it 5 feet long wow i thought that the lion would be the one trying to eat the puffer since they eat what fits in there mouth

He used to live with a fuzzy dwarf lionfish over a year ago and he was fine with that

I personally wouldn't risk it. Even if it was with a fuzzy dwarf lion. But I would get the green spotted over the volitan. The reason being that when a volitan doesn't have enough room the become quite sedentary. A 6 foot 135 gallon tank is only 18"wide. 24" is the smallest I would go with a volitan

Would the lion eat the puffer?

Lions are predators and will eat what they can fit in their mouth. I would choose one or the other. GSP if you already own it

They could be best friends, but I would go with the likelihood.... one day you look in your tank and puffer is gone. sorry.

I say other way around puffer eating lion instead. I once ( 3 weeks ago ) had a lionfish that was eating on a daily basis and the parameters were fine, I went to bed one night and forgot to feed em and my blue spotted puffer was eating the lion's face off in the morning. Just keep ur puffer fed and you will be fine in my opinion.

Yea but green spotted puffers are supposed to get 6 inches but they never I have had mine over a year and he hasn't grown at all he is about 1 inch and a half long and the lion gets over a foot and apparently eat anything that's smaller than it's mouth and my buffer is tiny and the lion would be massive so that's why I think the lion would eat th puffer

What size tank is the puffer in?

Thats suprising my puffer is about 4'' and my lion seemed very timid, then again it was a zebra so that could make a difference

It'll probably grow after it realizes it has more room if it's not stunted already

Yea that's one of the main reasons we want a new tank the LFS we bought him from tricked us into buying fish that would not fit in the tank

He seems healthy but I don't want him In that little tank anymore he deserves a bigger tank and now he is finally getting one he is quite active and swims around alot and eats ok but i know the tank is to small for him in the end I would pick him over any lionfish anyday

Oh I just went to look at him and realised my measurements where wrong he is about 2/2.5 inches so he is bigger than when we first got him I think he had a growth spurt or something cause he was smaller a few months ago

Reving an old thread assuming the puffer won't be a problem (he is very timid and not aggressive at all) would a russels lion work?
