Thought I would share the results of my testing a glass scratch removal product from glassrenu.

The reason I am testing is I have managed over the course of time to put scratches on the inside of my tank (hasn't had water in it..)

Its a 265g..Had ZERO scratches when I purchased it..

I will say this process is not for the faint of heart...

I have done a couple of tests on a old 40g breeder...

This test is on a new 55g that I will be using for a QT tank...

The new scratch...this is about 1" long. It does catch your fingernail..

I placed a light grid inside the tank.. why am I doing this? To show that if you feather the repair appropriately there is no lensing effect.. i.e. distortion

Hope you have enjoyed my demo of the glassrenu scratch removal kit..

This was my 3rd practice run.. I worked on a 40g breeder 1st two times..

You can polish out scratches (even deeper ones) in glass without distortion.. it does take time - close to 2 hours this time..with cooling intervals.

I did have to go back one time with pre-polish pad as I had some fine whirls in the glass. I think the polishing step would have eventually removed them but pre-polishing is just a lot faster..

Nice post! I put together a similar thread for doing acrylic while the tank is filled. Glass is much more difficult even when empty but it's great to see that somebody took the time to document it here. I will be sure to point people to your thread when the subject comes up!

Thank you. I always point people to your thread when I hear "you can't remove scratches from acrylic when tank is use..".

Oh yeah glass is much more difficult.. and now that I have had both.. next tank will be acrylic again.. so much easier..

Awesome! I had a contractor with glass renu go over my 600gal. It certainly works! Great post.

I tried all kinds of products to try it myself, ended up paying for him to do the tank instead of trying it myself. Worth every penny!

I have a 240g tank in my garage right now that I am trying to rehab using the GlassRenu system.
I picked up a tank that was in pretty rough shape ....many, many, many, many scratches.
But, if I can clean it up it will end up being a good deal .... if not .... well, then it's a learning experience.
Coming along pretty good ... so far but, man is it going to be a LOT of work.
The product does work though ... you just have to have a lot of patience .... and there is a bit of a learning curve.

Man I wish I could have found someone in Houston.. it wasn't for lack of trying.. 99% of the glass shops just want to replace panes.. of the two I found one said to busy and other didn't do it anymore..

Yep.. when I get enough practice my plan is to roll the tank onto its face so I am not working vertically, use the black disk to remove all the scratches and then I am going to use the grey pre-polish disks on the entire surface followed by the polishing..

Oh yeah, I called all over the place. The trick I figured out was not mentioning aquarium until you couldn't hold out any longer .

My guy would do the outside any day but now that he experienced 16 hours inside an aquarium you would have to convince him with a much larger stack of cash if you wanted him to do it
