Just bought the background for the back of the tank. I have two options, deep blue or a black. I am thinking black to bring out the colors of the fish and coral. What are your thoughts?

I've done both and also a black fade into blue. Personally I prefer all black.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks for the advice!

I've done both. Black for fish, but the blue looks better for coral, IMO.

Really? I would think black would look better with the colors of coral popping against the black!

I've done both also. Given enough time, the back of the tank becomes the very same color as coralline algae so whichever you choose will be temporary.

Why do people ask others what they should like. It's your tank use the one YOU like best. If you like it, it's perfect.

Vote for black. But I've done white as well, makes it brighter it seems. As it's been mentioned before, eventually everything turns purple.

I went with blue...though I originally bought a few cans of black Plasti Dip. I see a lot of fresh water tanks with black backgrounds, but most salt are blue. Let's see some black pictures for the OP.

Almost feel bad posting this but here is my cycling tank with black background. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170515/96a650f703a25890146bfd93c2f1b9b1.jpg

I like blue because I have a low power light "Current USA LED" and I need all the reflection help I can get. I've read that black "absorbs" more light than blue. Plus it reminds more more of the ocean.

Your choice, whatever you like it's your tank. I personally went with a mirror tint on the back so when you are looking at it it almost seems like endless tank.

Blue will certainly be brighter. I typically prefer blue.

Whenever I see a tank with a blue background, it's the first thing my eye goes to. I think blue attracts too much attention and takes away from the tank inhabitants, aquascape, etc. Just my opinion of course

Do you have a link or name of the product?

It's a personal preference really. I prefer black to the mid-blue that a lot of folks use, but a nice deep navy blue trumps black.

I have tried blue and black. I painted my first tank blue but switched to an 1/8" sheet of black acrylic when I upgraded to my current tank. I like black better.

I bet a deep navy blue would look really good

Just a regular car tint in mirror color sold on ebay. Instead of tinting the glass I just taped it to back panel for easy removal later.

Good idea. Thanks. My current tank was painted.
