You need to make sure the white balance can go high enough to get good pictures. The lenses matter much more than the body.

It should be plenty fast enough. Might have to supplement with white light if you run mainly blue light.

Just add a yellow filter in front your phone, which will take awesome pics and vids unless you wanna go beyond.

d5200 is a good camera, however invest in a good macro lens. you will get the best picture from a 60, or even a 100mm MACRO 1:1 ratio lens. I prefer fixed macro lenses but you can get away with an adjustable lens. Also look at aperture the lower (f) the better the low light capabilities. good luck with your purchase..:)

The 3.5-5.6 kit lens has a great minimal focal distance, but it's on the slower side. You'll also find it soft wide open and want to stop it down to get it sharp. Upping the ISO past 1600 on the D5200 will generate a lot of color noise so if you use auto ISO set it to 1600. White balance won't be an issue if you shoot in A,S, or M mode and export RAW. If you plan on using auto mode and exporting jpgs you're really not going to see a big difference in pictures. If you're going to spend the money on a DSLR, learn how to use it because a D5200 is a VERY capable camera, especially if you get some nice glass.

I bought last week a D5600 and also have been playing and trying to learn photography with my reef.
