Picked up a new toy yesterday! 150 shallow . It has a steel stand its rusting at certain areas and the screws are brown wondering if i should replace them? Im also looking to see what i should put between the top of the stand and the tank. I know there is levelling mats. I plan on making a center rockmass, that comes out of the water. The mountain will also be home to a couple small land crabs.

For your peace of mind, I would consider building a new stand if the old one is rusted past surface rust. You could do a giant version of a 40 breeder 2 - 2x4s at each corner and frame to distribute the weight with basic carpentry tools.

As for the rock layout, if you're going to go with everything in the center, I would position it somewhere so you can walk around at least 3 sides of it, otherwise you lose all that dimension.

I don't know anything about land crabs, but I would do your homework about:
- how much space they need
- Their diet (don't want them starving and nuking your tank or eating your fish
- if they are likely to clamber up tank equipment/overflow and scurry of into your house.

I believe its all surface rust. If so new powder coat should take care of it? and i will research the crabs for sure

Sweet tank. I feel your pain on the polishing. I probably have a good 8-10 hours of work into my acrylic tank and it's just starting to look good. I did cheat and used a power sander

Thanks ya im just using a palm sander. Its just a matter of having to repeat the sanding wiping process. I still have some deep gouges debating if i should go back and sand those areas anyone have advice?

Trying to figure out the plan for the tank to be placed on the stand. I currently have a 3/4" plywood underneath wondering if i should add foam on top any suggestions?

Any foam sheet (3-5mm) should not do any harm.
I like this tank idea and dimensions.
