I just bought a 65g marineland corner flow and I was wondering what LEDs I could put on it to grow plating montipora, birds nest, softies, and lps?
Tank dimensions are 36in wide, 18in front to back and 24in deep.
Wanted a strip with timers and sunrise/sunset with brackets. I was looking at the new orbit marine pro? Here is the par data: http://current-usa.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/Orbit_Marine_Light_Specifications.pdf
Would one of those work?
I also have a marineland reef led 18-24 inch that I could use for supplementing?
Thanks,
George

*There are two different threads that I posted. This is the combination of them.*

Also, I would like to spend $200-250 or less. My LFS priced the orbit marine pro at $250.

You can get a Chinese black box and out perform that marine orbit for less

Yeah, but I wanted one that had brackets, not hanging...

Oceans revive comes with brackets.

I think the Orbit Marine would have a very difficult time penetrating a 24" deep tank. It uses 0.5 watt LED diodes whereas most other fixtures use 3 watt diodes.

So I should be the ocean revive? Do you they have timers and sunrise/sunset?

Timers but no sunset and sunrise

Can you control the intensity by timer as the day goes on? Also, do you own them? If so, how do they perform and what model?

There is a timer and intensity controls for the two channels, blue and white. So you can do a "kind of" sunrise / sunset by having the blues run for and hour before and and an hour after the whites come on and turn off... The model you're looking for is the Ocean Revive T247B.

I own the T247B it grows corals but won't have the shabang the more expensive led units offer.

these are programmable through the day, with mounting legs and multiple channels.

I just saw the viparspectra leds? Are they any good. I know they are not hanging, so that isn't good... Also, my mother wants to know if the lights are safe to use? :hmm5:

Ok, I think I am going with the ocean revive lights.

What about t5 lights? Sorry, I just entertained the idea of t5 in my head. What do you guys suggest?

What do mean, not the whole shebang?

He means full programmability, sunrise/sunset ramping, way more than 2 channels of control, moonlights, lunar cycles, storms, cloud cover, lighting, etc. These are bells and whistles included in premium fixtures that you pay a premium price for. These features are more for us then then our coral IMO.

For a 36" long tank, a 24" or 32" Reef Breeders Photon V2 for $349 or $499 will do everything you probably want. It has sunrise/sunset/moonlight ability and 6 channels of color control. If you are a fanatic (like some of us) about the exact shade of white you get, an Euphotica 24" which has the sunrise/sunset/moonlight ability and costs about $290. For the extra $60, I'd go with the Reef Breeders Photon. It's way more popular, it's incredibly better looking than the black box led and they have a sponsor forum here at RC which makes them easy to talk to.

Is it able to be mounted using brackets on tank edge?

Do I need the 24 or 32 inch. I know there will be shading but which one?

Do you have sps, and if you do, how are they growing?

I answered your PM.

Yes, they have adjustable legs and hanging kits.

And my tank is mostly sps (acros and digis). And they are growing very well and nice color too. I had serious MH and t5 before I switched to leds 6 years ago and I haven't seen any real difference in growth or color. In fact, I hate selling corals and I have to frag more often than I would like!

If you go RB Photons, get a plug-in USB port and just keep the remote plugged in whenever you aren't using it. The battery runs dead every couple of weeks even if not used.
